We Are MapleScot

MapleScot development was formed in 2013 in London, England by Troy Peterson and James Durie. It started one day in the office with a discussion about how the new space of mobile apps has democratized game development. You do not need a huge team of people to create fun games that people will play. Anyone can do it and so we thought we could too. We thought it would be great if we could revive the simple but addictive gameplay styles of 80's arcade and home console games and bring them to smartphones everywhere. The concept for our first game, The Shaft came together very quickly and as we talked about it we became more and more excited about the possibilities. With no previous experience in game or mobile development we set out to create something that we would play ourselves and that we hope others would enjoy too. A few months later "The Shaft" was released on the Android Play Store. Before long we had ideas sprouting up everywhere for new games. There are at least 8 game ideas that we would like to develop, but we need your support. Please play our games, and visit our sponsers. We are doing this part time for now but would really love to bring you more great games to play!

Our Philosophy

Games don't have to be complex to be fun. In the past it was exciting to move a pie-shaped yelllow character around a maze and collect dots. As much as we love the big, complex, intense modern games we also enjoy the simplicity of the old timeless games. Modern smartphones and tablets represent a perfect platform to revive this simple game-play. We are not looking to clone existing games from the past but instead to bring the style and ideas of them to the new millenium for a new mobile world.

We strive to make our games:

  • Fun
  • Easy to learn
  • Hard to master
  • Addictive
  • Intuitive in interface and design

We are developers, not artists... This means that our current games are limited in graphical quality. We hope to bring nicer and better graphics to future games as much as we can, but we also hope that our players can look past the simple art to see the pure fun behind it.

The Team

MapleScot currently consists of two part-time developers.

Troy Peterson

Troy Peterson  Originally from a small town in British Columbia, Canada, Troy has loved technology and computers all his life. He is a Star Trek fan and hardcore geek. Having taught himself Basic at a young age, Troy naturally went into software development as a career. He ended up developing for high-performance distributed client/server financial trading applications in banks.  This took him to Toronto and ultimately to London, England. Troy's other hobbies include electronics, tesla coils, and astronomy. He married Charlotte, the love of his life, in June of 2015.

James Durie

Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, James has been passionate about games since he got his first games console, an Atari 2600. He started learning Basic on an Apple IIe at school and has owned a variety of computers and consoles over the years. Although James has been a professional developer for over 20 years, the last 17 years in the City working on financial software, he has never lost his passion for computer games. James is married and has a little girl. james bio
